Over the past few years I have bought several vacuum cleaners. Some were bagless and some had bags. I've had poor success with vacuum cleaners until now. I had a Eureka vacuum cleaner that was supposed to be specially made for people with pets. But before the bag would ever get full, the brush would get full of fur so that I couldn't use it anymore. I recently got another vacuum cleaner, but I couldn't make one pass through my living room before it too was clogged full of hair. So when I got this vacuum cleaner out of the box, I didn't expect it to be better than all the rest. But I had read a lot of comments before purchasing this one and decided to give it a chance. As soon as I began vacuuming the area rug on top of the carpet in my living room, I was amazed as the rug began to appear under all the fur that previous vacuum cleaners couldn't touch. But as amazing as it looked, I knew not to get my hopes up. Many times I had begun vacuuming this same rug when clumps of fur would finally cough up. But that didn't happen with the Bissell Cleanview! As long as it kept sucking up the fur, I kept vacuuming. Finally I began seeing little fur balls appear. Looking at the canister, I realized I probably should have stopped and emptied out the canister. I had just been so excited to see one work!I liked the way that the canister could be lifted off and taken somewhere to be emptied. When I emptied it, it was so full of fur that I was having trouble getting out fur that jammed up near the filter. No wonder some little fur balls had appeared. I finally took all the fur that got sucked up in the living room and hallway and took some photos of it (I placed it in a plastic container to give a better idea of the amount of fur with top and side views). Then I took a photo of the bottom of the vacuum cleaner - there wasn't any fur down there like every other vacuum cleaner I've ever owned. But this vacuum cleaner is made to pick up all the fur and dirt and make it easy to clean it up. I was only able to get all the fur out of the canister by lifting out the filter. But it is made to do that easily. Then there is a sponge which was caked with fur and dirt in my case. Instructions said that you could use water and mild detergent to clean it so I rinsed out the parts with a little Dawn dishwashing soap. I put a couple of drops of Dawn on the sponge and all the brown dirt came out. The instructions say to make sure that all the parts are dry before using them again. I dried out the canister with a towel then set it aside to air dry the rest. The sponge looked brand new after I washed it out. By the next morning, everything - including the sponge - was bone dry and ready to go again. So it seems like my dog has met his match and not a moment too soon. This is peak shedding season. If I had any idea that it was going to perform as well as it did, I would have taken "before" photos of my rug. Now the vibrant colors are back - it is no longer covered with fur.And one more bonus, it did a great job of sucking up leaves and parts of leaves near my back door! I would give it 6 stars if I could and a definite two paws up!!!For a while now, i've had this feeling that my old Hoover upright bag-type vacuum wasn't doing that great of a job considering it must be almost 20 years old so I started looking at a replacement. As many of you know, or perhaps don't know... vacuum prices can be all over the place and can run anywhere from just under $100 for a budget Bissell like this one to crazy town like a $2,000 Kirby Avalir 2. I knew from the start that I wasn't going to buy an overpriced Dyson for $500, but I did consider and still am considering a refurbished Kirby G6 or newer model when I eventually replace the carpets. But for now, I decided to hold onto my money, ignore the dyson marketing hype, and avoid all the 'up-sell' features like being a pet hair model, and I became a Bissell Cleanview owner.Upon receiving the vacuum, assembly was quick and easy. Just a few screws and it was ready to go. But first, i dragged out my old hoover upright, installed a new bag into it, and vacuumed the house. The three upstairs bedrooms, hallway, stairway, and living room are all carpeted and got a good once-over. Nothing crazy. I do have two American Brittanys (Bird dogs) who should be completely bald considering how much dog hair they shed around the house. How they manage to keep a nice fur coat will probably go unanswered much like other age old questions like "what happened before the big bang", "are we alone?", or "where's Hoffa?".For those who don't already see where i'm going with this, i'm basically trying to sell myself on this cheap Bissell, kinda like how pushy Kirby salespeople sell people on vacuums by first cleaning using the customers vacuum first, then using their product. I certainly wasn't 100% sure i made the right purchase at the time, but those worries would soon vanish. It was now time for the Bissell Cleanview to prove its worth or get boxed back up and returned to Amazon. Powering it on using the red foot pedal was interesting since the last two vacuums i owned used a switch, and I was immediately surprised how quiet it was compared to my old Vacuum. While i had initially taken this as a bad sign, those fears quickly vanished as I began the first bedroom and watched an astonishing amount of dirt, dog hair, and who knows what begin to fill the canister. Before finishing just the master bedroom (which isn't large at all) I had already dumped the canister once, and three more times by the time the three bedrooms and hallway were done. And two more times when cleaning the downstairs living room. That's a total of 6 canisters, roughly 12 liters of filth pulled from carpets I had just vacuumed with a fully functional 15-20 year old hoover. I was shocked... amazed... and embarrassed that I had no idea i was living in such a pig sty.Now you might be wondering what about the stairs. Well it did do a fantastic job on the mid-way point landing, but the turbo-brush air powered accessory and the too-short hose did an ok job, but nothing to write home about. Truth be told, i have yet to find any vacuum with a decent air-powered brush tool. The best one I own is for my electrolux canister vacuum and its still not that great. The problem with them is they're built super cheap. Within a few uses they start making noise, and in no time they're in the trash can. The problem is, the turbine and brush rolls almost always have sloppy bronze bushings at best, or plastic on plastic guaranteed to melt from friction fittings on them. If only some company out there would spend a couple bucks on some sealed ball bearings to be used in their design and they'd have a great brush tool. This likely wont happen because most of them sell a much higher end vacuum model with an electric motor powered brush tool, and that would cannibalize sales. So to wrap things up, this is an outstanding vacuum for the money. Never in a million years would i have imagined a $79 could beat out my old, yet much more expensive at the time of purchase Hoover, let alone make a fool out of it. My entire house literally feels different now. Walking around barefoot feels much better too. . It never felt dirty before though, but i guess as they say ignorance is bliss. Though it does beg the question.... if a $79 vacuum is this good, i wonder if that Kirby would beat this vacuum by a margin as large as its trounced my old Hoover?
