I was lucky and got it like half price. It was used but new in box. I immediately started vacuum sealing almost a thousand pounds of food. 5 pounds at a time. It worked perfectly and i only had one bag that failed due to a small puncture (not the seal). I made like 20 years worth of sealed food. This things has some serious vaccusuck power.Loved it when it worked. However worked four times then quit working!!Compact and easy to useI toiled over which Food Saver to buy. I was set to spend some money and buy a premium version, but after reading many reviews and watching several videos, I decided that as a first-time FoodSaver buyer, that the compact was for me...and I am so glad I made this choice! Because it is so compact, it sits on top of a piece of wood on top of my toaster oven. (Only try this if there are no vents in the top of your toaster oven). All this fits under the cabinets. With it so handy, I use it ALL the time. I usually bring it down onto he counter to use as it gets better suction that way with the food resting on the counter too. I bought some discount rolls for the baggie refills and I keep them nearby on a shelf. The compact version does all the same things the big versions do...if you buy the attachments you can also seal wine bottles and mason jars. The compact version only fits up to 8" wide baggies though. But I still reseal bags of potato chips and cereal bags in their original (wider) bags. I fold the top corners in and then I am able to stick the edge of the baggy in to my machine. Also, when using my own purchase baggies from the 8" rolls, I often cut a bit longer bag than necessary. So let.s say I am storing some chicken. Then I cut open the bag and take out one portion--the smaller my storage portions get, the more room I have to seal. But by giving it a little "extra" room, you can cut open and reseal over and over again, even if you only take a little bit of food out. Keep in mind that you need two to three inches extra to vacuum and seal. But in some cases, I only need to seal the item as I know I will get into it again in a couple of days (like cheese in the fridge) and so then I just put the edge on the sealer and I don't need as much material to do that. By using it this way I am able to get the most use and bang for my buck out of my baggies. I am thrilled how long potato chips, cereals, cheese, meats, home baked cookies and so much more last so long now that I finally have a FoodSaver! Definitely a worthwhile investment no matter which model you buy! I can even reseal my Color Street Nails and other non-food items with it!Purchased for my Son the cook. He loves to use to seal in seasonings when make so ve chay steaksAfter using an off brand model for over a year and it breaking, I ordered this excellent product and will stick with this brand hereafter as the quality difference is obvious.I was really worried and didn't have much hope after reading quite a few negative reviews on multiple FoodSavers. I took a chance and purchased the VS1100. I'm prepping for a sailing trip in the tropics of 3-4 months so vacuum sealing food is really important for pretty obvious reasons.I did a HUGE provisioning run and worked for several days prepping the food and using the VS1100 to store our foods. It's been an absolute champ. The only time bags didn't seal was when I didn't leave enough space at the top of the bag or when I accidentally got a little crease in the top where the bag should seal. That was user error but I quickly got the hang of it. Overall, I found it very easy to use. The vacuum seal is very strong. It's also pretty quick between bags. It says 20 seconds but I don't recall ever needing to wait.I have a few issues with the strength in my hands but I didn't find that it was difficult to press the lever down. I also appreciate that it's really light and easy for me to stow away. The small size is perfect for the sailboat where storage is at a premium.I've used it to seal some other non, foodsaver bags like chips, a bag of trail mix, and marshmallows and it vacuumed and sealed fine. I tried a seal on a cheaper, quart ziploc type bag and it did break where I'd sealed it. I think that bag was too thin to seal. That's the only seal that's failed so far and that wasn't a FoodSaver issue, but a cheap, non vacuum seal bag.
