This vacuum is grat and fairly rugged but it has gone through 4 belts in the last 4 months. It also has items get stuck in it and you have to take it apart to get them out.Great vacuum! Does a really good job. Only wish the cord was longer. Other than that, it's a great value.Very good product. Very good priceIt is hard to believe this is considered to be a commercial vacuum. Aside from the three prong cord, nothing about this vacuum lends itself to hard daily use. It is an achingly old fashioned design well below the standards of nearly any other commercial vacuum including some in the same price rangePROS:1. It's inexpensive2. It's light weight3. It's mechanically simple4. It has a long cordCONS:1. The method of storing and dumping dirt is very poorly designed, only slightly better than a shake out bag, and you can never get the residual dirt out of the upper bag once it's dirty2. The dirt cup doesn't hold much and if you let the dirt back up into the bag dumping the dirt can make a big mess on the floor.3. Because it uses a fabric bag, filtration is almost non-existent, limited to what the fabric bag can capture, which isn't much4. The belt is center mounted right in the cleaning path, not side mounted and protected from the wear and tear of direct exposure to dirt5. The belt is center mounted, placing a big obstruction in the middle of the cleaning path6. The center mounted belt is just a round piece of elastic rubber that does not last long, a couple of months of intermittent use, competitive commercial vacuums use side mounted geared or serpentine belts that do not run in the dirt the vacuum is sucking up and last for years7. The plastics are low quality and break easily8. It doesn't come close to the cleaning power of other good quality commercial vacuums like the Windsor Sensor S12s used by our custodial staff9. The brush roll cannot be turned off to permit the vacuum to be used to clean hard floors10. There is no spotting hose or attachments, this vacuum is strictly limited to cleaning carpet and nothing elseThis is an achingly old fashioned vacuum design compounded by low quality materials used in it's construction. There are commercial bagged uprights in the same price range from Carpet Pro and Panasonic that will out clean and out last this machine, and have hoses and attachments permitting above floor cleaning and quick spot cleaning, neither of which are possible with the Sanitaire Don't waste your money. Shop another brand.A reasonably effective ,cheap machine. Mine tends to throw its belt requiring me to upend it and re set the it , rather frequently I might add. It also chews through belts also rather frequently (perhaps once a month of moderate use , more frequently in a commercial or institutional setting ) so keep some on hand. Its pretty cheaply made and the base of the upright on my machine has developed a wobble that causes its lock to fail which impacts its effectiveness , im trying to figure out how to tighten it up myself without using the manufacturer warranty. I f I DO use it though there are an abundance of authorized Sanitare service places where I live , I checked their website. For its 150.00$ price tag its worth it but it aint no Dyson.
